Erik Bakich had an active offseason, adding to the Clemson Tigers’ roster through the transfer portal. After the departure of several key players, some additions were necessary to keep the team competitive with hopes of a World Series run. In total, Clemson secured seven players from the portal. With the season just 46 days away, Ava Fowler takes a peek at the incoming transfers that could help impact Clemson's production from the word go.
The standout addition is Luke Gaffney, the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year. A redshirt freshman from Purdue, Gaffney posted an impressive .359 batting average and a .449 on-base percentage in 2024, along with 13 home runs. He earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors five times during the season. Fans can expect to see Luke as a key factor in the Tigers’ lineup, most likely playing first base.
Another addition is Dominic Listi, an outfielder from Indiana State. Listi brings a solid .324 batting average and an outstanding .464 on-base percentage to the Tigers. His offensive capabilities make him a strong asset for Clemson’s lineup. Erik Bakich added two infielders, Josh Paino from Cal Baptist, and Collin Priest from Michigan. Paino is a first-year grad student and hit 21 home runs with Cal Baptist. Priest, a sophomore, was an All-Big Ten Freshman Team selection and is recognized for his skills as a first baseman.
Clemson strengthened its bullpen with three new arms: Michael Gillen, Luke Kissenberth, and Hudson Lee. Gillen, a right-hander from Seton Hall, recorded 70 strikeouts against just 19 walks over two seasons. Kissenberth, another right-hander, joins him from The Citadel. The Tigers also welcomed Hudson Lee, a sophomore left-handed pitcher transferring from Wake Forest. Lee's addition brings depth and versatility to Clemson’s bullpen.
Coming off an exceptional 2024 season, Clemson baseball fans have every reason to be excited about 2025. Each new player brings valuable skills and experience, positioning the Tigers for continued success.
