The Clemson gymnastics team hits the road for the second consecutive week to face ACC newcomer California. The Tigers travel to Berkeley, California, hoping to put up a tough fight against the Golden Bears. California enters the matchup ranked No. 7 in this week’s Road to Nationals rankings, while Clemson sits at No. 24. Let’s take a closer look at how both teams stack up heading into the meet.
Clemson is coming off a narrow 195.500–195.100 win over Pittsburgh, marking its first ACC victory of the season. Maggie Holman set a personal record on vault, scoring a 9.825 with her Front Handspring Pike Half. Vault proved pivotal for the Tigers, as they recorded a team score of 49.025 in the event. Beam was another highlight, with standout performances from Sierra Church, who scored a season-high 9.850, and freshman Danika Nielsen with a score of 9.800. Quinn Kuhl continues to be a huge impact performer, delivering scores of 9.750 on bars, 9.825 on beam, and 9.800 on vault.
For California, they are coming off of a quad meet win at UC Davis where they squared off against UC Davis, Cornell, and Alaska Anchorage, putting up a score of 196.950. Senior Maddie Williams headlined Cal’s recent meet with an all-around title, scoring a 39.475 overall and a top vault score of 9.900. Junior Casey Brown claimed bars, while seniors Ella Cesario and Mya Lauzon won beam and floor. Cal capped the meet with a season-high 49.325 on beam, led by Cesario’s 9.900 and strong contributions from Lauzon's score of 9.875 and Williams's score of 9.850.
Clemson will need to be at its absolute best to challenge Cal, with little room for error. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM EST at Haas Pavilion and will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
