Good morning, Tigers! Today is the only day this week without a game. Therefore, I hope you get some much-needed rest after all the wins racked up this weekend. In-state rivalries, final home games, and more conference play characterize this week. Let’s get into it.
No. 8 Clemson Baseball (6-1) will start this week’s action by welcoming the Winthrop Eagles at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. This game will be a warmup for the highly anticipated best-of-three series against in-state rival South Carolina set to begin Friday night. Clemson will host the first game at 7 p.m. Saturday’s game will be held at a neutral site in Greenville, at 1:30 p.m. Finally, on Sunday, the Tigers will head into Columbia to take on the Gamecocks for a battle of in-state bragging rights at 5:00 p.m. Clemson swept the series last year and would love nothing more than to do it again.
On Wednesday, Clemson Softball will continue their homestead against the Georgia Bulldogs at 4 p.m. The program is coming off an undefeated championship run in the Clemson Classic, taking down Elon, Villanova, and Marshall. The 8-0 run-rule championship game against Marshall moved the Tigers to a (9-6) record. Reese Bassinger threw a complete game, further establishing herself as a key contributor. To round out the weekend, the Tiger Invitational begins on Friday with games set against Lafayette, East Carolina, and Indiana.
Returning to Littlejohn Coliseum on Wednesday, No. 18 Men’s Basketball (22-5) hosts Notre Dame at 7:00 p.m. The Tigers will have the opportunity to achieve their 15th ACC win, which would break a program record for most ACC wins in a single season. Twelve of these conference victories have been by double digits. Currently ranked second in the ACC, the team will travel to play Virginia on the road on Saturday. Clemson has thrived recently in opposing arenas, winning their last six away games.
Clemson Women’s Basketball (13-14) is coming off a rough loss to Pittsburgh, 72-59, on Sunday. On the bright side, sophomore Hannah Kohn made five three-pointers to achieve the second-most 3’s made in a season (75). The team will hit the road on Thursday to take on Louisville at 6:00 p.m., before returning for their final home game on Sunday. The Tigers will honor their four seniors at 2 p.m. against Virginia Tech. The program can still potentially achieve a winning record in head coach Shawn Poppie’s first season, but it will require some serious effort.
On Friday, Men’s Tennis will compete against Louisville at 3 p.m. at Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. Then, in a home doubleheader on Sunday, the Tigers will face Notre Dame and Gardner-Webb.
In their Military Appreciation Meet, Clemson Gymnastics welcomes the University of New Hampshire and Texas Women’s University on Friday at 7 p.m. The Tigers are coming off their season-high score of 196.525 in a close loss to No. 16 Stanford, Sunday. Eve Jackson posted her career-high of 9.950 on Floor, teammate Brie Clark posted a score of 9.925, and Molly Arnold brought in a season-high 9.900 on Floor, respectively.
In Louisville, Kentucky, Clemson Track & Field will compete in the ACC Indoor Championships from March 1-3.
No. 19 Clemson Women’s Tennis continues their ACC play against Georgia Tech. On Saturday, the Tigers (10-2) will battle the Yellow Jackets (6-5). The program swept Virginia Tech 4-0 in their last match.
In a thrilling 12-11 victory over No. 11 Notre Dame, No. 17 Clemson Lacrosse started conference play strong. Natalie Shurtleff led the Tigers in goals scored (3) and total points (4). In goal, Emily Lamparter recorded 10 saves with a 47.6% save rate. The team now, (4-0), will take on Syracuse in a clash of orange on Saturday.
As you can see, it is a very busy week in Clemson Tigers Athletics. Let's cheer on the Tigers across all sports and support them always. Let's have a great week!
