As Clemson women’s lacrosse got off to one of their hottest starts in program history, Brooke Goldstein was a facilitator. Her crafty passes set up teammates for success. In their six-game win streak to open the season, she collected 14 assists. However, after the mid-season slump, it was recognized that adjustments needed to be made.
These adjustments came in the form of Goldstein taking a more active role in the offense. No longer would she be a facilitator, but now an active threat. The freshman attacker exploded in a 14-2 win over Louisville. The Cardinals' defense had no answer for Goldstein’s four goals off seven shots. This was her first career hat trick and snapped the Tigers' four-game losing streak.
Lindsey Marshall and Kayla MacLeod currently lead the team with 51 and 43 goals, respectively. Marshall is top five for goals and goals per game in the ACC. Lexi Edmonds and Natalie Shurtleff each also have 40+ points in the season. Unlocking Goldstein’s scoring has made an already potent Clemson offense more dangerous.
Over the Tigers' recent five-game winning streak, she accumulated 21 points, bringing her season total to 45. She broke the single-season assist record and is currently 7 points away from the freshman season point record. The 5-9 attacker has found her stride aggressively, dodging from X and finishing at the crease.
In their last contest, Goldstein displayed her versatility as Clemson fell to No. 9 Stanford. This was the Tigers' fourth top-10 opponent of the season. Goldstein scored Clemson’s only goal of the first half. She’d end the game with an impressive stat line of two goals, one assist, one ground ball, one caused turnover, and two draw controls. The freshman can clearly make an impact all across the field. This multidimensional offense has led Clemson to its record-breaking season. They are hard to scout and even harder to defend, as anyone can find the back of the net.
The Tigers will compete in their last regular season game at home against Pittsburgh on Thursday at 6. With a spot in the ACC tournament already clinched, Clemson hopes to build their resume for a potential NCAA tournament bid. Keep your eyes out as this exciting lacrosse season starts to come to a close.
