The importance of a quarterback that can move is bigger than ever. With evolving defensive schemes on the backside and the athletic edge rushers in today’s game, it gives teams some comfort if they have a dual-threat quarterback on their side. Clemson’s Cade Klubnik has had a good season being able to extend plays and even pop a long run every now and then for six. Klubnik rushed for 458 yards with seven touchdowns on 106 carries this season. That is a big plus for the Tigers' offense, especially on plays when defenses cover all of their checkmarks except for the quarterback. Klubnik more than doubled his rushing yardage from last season. In 2023, Klubnik ran for 194 yards with four touchdowns on 110 carries in the regular season. Saturday in Austin, TX, I look forward to seeing what success Klubnik will have with his arm against the Texas defense, but I would be lying if I said I wouldn’t get a burst of energy to see Cade take off on Texas and get downfield for a first down or touchdown.

Texas hasn’t allowed a lot from quarterbacks on the ground this season, but two well-known dual-threats were able to run for 60 or more against the Longhorns. Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia was able to gain 67 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries in a 27-24 loss to the Longhorns. Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed ran for 60 yards on 14 carries in a 17-7 loss. Cade Klubnik has been able to move for 60-plus yards on three occasions this season. Klubnik went for 70 yards and one touchdown on just four carries against NC State back in September. Then he had 62 yards at Florida State and 62 yards versus South Carolina. Klubnik can get out and move. He is not a statue and will make defenses pay if he has the chance to. Cade Klubnik’s leg usage could be key for the Tigers on Saturday.
