If there was ever a week that captured the emergence of a star, Macey Cintron just authored it.
The freshman designated player from Cumming, Georgia, has been raking all season, but during Clemson’s final regular season stretch from April 22–27, she turned it up to another level—and the nation noticed. On Tuesday, Cintron was named both a Softball America Star of the Week and the D1Softball Freshman of the Week, the first such weekly accolades of her young career.
And they’re well earned.
Cintron hit a blistering .500 across four games with a staggering 1.124 slugging percentage and a .588 on-base clip. She recorded seven hits, including three home runs and a double, while driving in seven runs and scoring five of her own. She also showed plate discipline with three walks—none bigger than the one she drew to lead off the ninth inning against then-No. 1 Tennessee. Her pinch runner would go on to score the go-ahead run in one of the program’s most memorable upset victories.
That was just the start of her weekend heroics.
Cintron caught fire against Georgia Tech in Atlanta, going 4-for-5 in Game 2 of the series with four RBIs and three runs scored to push Clemson to a crucial series win. Her four-RBI performance tied the program record for most RBIs by a freshman in a single game—until she broke that record the very next day. Her three-RBI outing in the series finale gave her 48 on the year, setting a new standard for Tiger rookies.
The biggest blow? A game-tying two-run homer in the sixth inning that ignited an eight-run unanswered rally and a statement comeback win over the Yellow Jackets.
Now finishing the regular season, Cintron is batting .316 with 48 hits and 14 home runs. She’s drawn 30 walks, scored 31 runs, and leads all Clemson freshmen in multi-hit games (14) and multi-RBI performances (13).
As the Tigers shift their focus to postseason play, awaiting their ACC Championship seeding for the tournament in Brighton, Mass. (May 7–10), it’s safe to say Macey Cintron is no longer just a freshman to watch—she’s already making history.
