In a tough business move, the Atlanta Falcons have released veteran defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, freeing up approximately $16.25 million in salary cap space, according to multiple reports. Jarrett, a two-time Pro Bowler and longtime team captain, has been a pillar of Atlanta’s defense since being drafted in the fifth round back in 2015. Over his ten seasons with the Falcons, he racked up 36.5 sacks, 77 tackles for loss, and a reputation as both a disruptive force on the field and a leader in the locker room.
His release comes as the Falcons navigate salary cap constraints heading into the new league year. Jarrett was still a solid contributor in 2024 despite coming off a torn ACL that ended his 2023 campaign in Week 8. Even with the injury setback, he posted 2.5 sacks and 53 total tackles last season, proving he still had plenty left in the tank.
Off the field, Jarrett was just as impactful. He was a Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee, recognized for his leadership and contributions to the community. His presence in Atlanta will be missed, both in the trenches and beyond.
Clemson Roots: From Underrated to Unstoppable
Before he became a Falcons mainstay, Jarrett made his mark at Clemson. Originally a lightly regarded recruit, he transformed into the Tigers' top interior defensive lineman and one of the team’s strongest leaders by his senior year in 2014. Over his Clemson career, he played 48 games (37 starts), tallying 207 tackles, 29.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and 37 quarterback pressures. His relentless motor and physicality helped lay the foundation for Clemson’s rise to national prominence in the years that followed.
As Jarrett enters the next phase of his career, there’s no doubt he’ll have suitors looking for a veteran presence on their defensive line. While his time in Atlanta has come to an end, his legacy as a Falcon is undeniable.
